Prototyping 14/05

Today we prototyped the plugs and panels for the modules, for the DIY production process. We wanted to lasercut the plugs out of the excess 3mm ABS sheet from the shell. This way we could reduce as much waste as possible. We iterated on a few designs and sheet thicknesses for the plugs, which we tested with IPO and IO students (see next post).

In the end it seemed that the plugs out of 3mm ABS (waste material from the shell) were too thick which made it difficult to click the plugs onto the panel. 2mm ABS plugs solved this problem, this is the end-result:

The panel is made out of a 5mm sheet of plywood and 8mm holes were drilled for the plugs.

Besides that, we also continued to write our final report.
